Reed Switches and Reed Switch Devices
Hasco Relays and Electronics International Corp. started out in reed switch business. Since 1976 Hasco promoted, specified, cut and bent and marketed reed switches and reed switch assemblies.(we added our electromechanical relays and magnets a few years later)
Being that we are one of the few companies that are totally knowledgeable on reed switches and reed switch assemblies we understand what it takes to market the highest quality product. We understand how important it is to have a reed switch go on and off when it is near a magnetic field and operate for tens of millions of cycles. What is equally but just as important to a reed switch is to have it sit idle for years and not have any contact resistance on the blades. This “idle” sitting and then “must work” scenario is important in applications where the reed switch may be next to a magnet for months or years and then break or make that one critical time. Such applications are important in liquid level sensors or proximity reed devices such as magnetic contacts or reed relays. An example here would be a reed switch in a liquid level sensor in the brake reservoir. Here you may find the brake fluid filled in a vehicle for years with the reed switch actuated. What is critical is that if this fluid leaks out the reed switch must operate to warn the driver. Here the application did not require the tens of millions of cycles a reed switch can operate. What was important is that it worked after sitting idle for long periods of time.
It should be noted that each and every reed switch goes through many tests before it is released. These include tests for operate and release times, voltage breakdown, insulation resistance, operating and release times, breakdown voltage checks, amongst others. There are also several visual inspections for cracking on the glass as well as testing lead length and strength. Contact material used in Hasco’s Reed Switches and Reed Switch devices includes rhodium and ruthenium to insure the highest quality possible. If you have a reed switch device or a need for bare or cut and bent reed switches please call 516 328 9292 or email info@hascorelays.com any drawings or specifications for free fast quoting.
Hasco also has a large stock of magnets to go with any reed switch application.
